AITHM was formally established in 2013 with $42.12m in establishment funding from the Queensland Government, combined with additional funding of $42m from the Commonwealth Government through the Australian Research Council Special Research Initiative (ARC SRI).
This funding has enabling AITHM to build essential research programs and facilities in tropical health and medicine for Australia and the region. AITHM has now established four facilities in the Tropics - Cairns, Mackay, Townsville and Thursday Island in the Torres Strait.
AITHM thanks the Australian and Queensland governments for their support.
AITHM also thanks James Cook University for their continuing support.
